Went for a test drive. The biggest issue I had was the drives die wouldn’t shut. Clean car fax and no sign of damage. It road nice and the air ride system worked. Minimal history. I might do it. It was kinda slow

Can you afford to buy another car when this thing blows up and is worth nearly nothing? Because otherwise, I wouldn’t buy an Allroad.

Audi made the C5 Allroad with a 4.2, didn’t they? It’d be neat to see one with a 6MT swap... Can’t even imagine the kind of electronic gubbinry and butchery that would be necessary with getting the car to realize that it can’t do its own shifting anymore. Also, I know that the Allroad gets a notoriously bad rap, but I’ve heard from a few people, some of whom are mechanics that they last much longer than you would expect if it’s been maintained properly throughout its life.

Not too bad. It’s the same as any other engine. It just has more parts than average

Do it! Join me in 2.7t ownership.

Don’t listen to people who have never owned these cars on the subject of reliability. Coming from an owner of a 2.7t A6, if you keep them stock they’ll pay you back.

You can switch an 01e into a 4.2 pretty easily. IIRC you need to swap the ECU.

http://advancedautomotion.com/shop/product_i…

Here we go, full swap for ~$2,000.

If like to do an exhaust just for a better sound. It’s slow but most things are compared to a wrx

12/19/2015 at 19:48

Kinja'd!!!0

^ That exactly.

I do admit that Audi probably over engineered the 2.7 twin turbo engine. But after all, it was pretty much a 2.8 with thicker cylinder walls and a couple of turbochargers and various other parts.

One thing where I think Audi could have thought about a little bit more was the placement of the turbochargers. The bipipe is fairly easy to remove though.

Also, Borg Warner is an American company; therefore it’s their fault that the k03s fail.

I’ve been debating doing something like this to my A6. It’s a great sound.

They’re not that slow though, to me at least haha. I don’t suggest a stage 1 tune though to preserve reliability. The only thing I’d do to mine is exhaust. 0-60 time is about 6 seconds for the manual version.

O shit. Wow. O honey I need a new exhaust.

But you’ve only had the car for a week.

Well bad luck honey

Why do the holes look like a screw driver?

Here’s a new necklace

“Over engineering” is a myth. But yes, a set of turbos (or even just the line gaskets) seems like something I don't want to do on a free weekend lol

It just needs a flash on the ecu, and a small wiring harness change (you can even buy plug and play kits).

Kinja'd!!!1

If they are taken care if properly it isn’t too bad. That said, my local dealership really dislikes them due to turbo failures.

Kinja'd!!! treesmakewater > jkm7680
12/19/2015 at 21:16

Kinja'd!!!1

If it is the 4.2 you don’t even need that. Just reflash the ecu with the euro s6 6MT files. Or pay JHM for a tune and 6MT mod

Oh yeah, lots of Indie shops hate them also.

The turbos like to live a LOT longer if you drive the cars easy and don’t modify them. So that’s what I’ll be doing.

Do you still have your A6?

Except for removing an under engine cover to change the oil. smh lol

and removing the front of the car to access much and the turbos are a pain in the ass to get at.

Has the timing belt been done? 170k miles means it should have been done twice. If it hasn’t, factor that (it’ll cost $900-1200 to get done) into your purchase price. Don’t take the owner’s word for it, if it’s been done and he’s not an idiot he’ll have proof.

An allroad is a car you want to buy from its original owner who also happens to be Ferdinand Piech. There’s just a ton that can go wrong with the things, and usually it does go wrong.

I had one for four years, from 98k to 158k miles. I did the timing belt and replaced the compressor for the air suspension three times. I ended up selling it because one of the airbags started leaking and I was tired of dealing with it...but for the four years I had it, I've got no issue saying it's the best car I've ever owned.

A 6-speed is pretty uncommon, but those are some high miles and unsightly dents on the rear hatch for 3900... If you really like it, maybe offer 2900. I can see small dings on the driver’s side doors as well... There are cleaner examples out there if you look.

Did a cams off re-seal on a Saturday on my 2.8 (special tools helped big time). It was tough but first time doing anything big on it, I say it wasn’the too bad. Just nuts and bolts buddy. Don’t fear da auto :]

Nah, oil pump killed itself, wasn’t worth fixing. Mine was a 4.2L though. I just became friends with a tech and the parts manager.

Looks like a nice car, but kind of a lot of money for an allroad with no history. I love those cars, it's got the good wheels, I'd just be worried about it.
